Charity Campaign Concept

UX & Layout Design
Project Brief
Create a campaign for the Woodland Trust. It must consist of a mobile app, environmental sign and billboard.
My Response
I chose to target families with my campaign, as I thought getting children engaged and interested at a young age could hopefully plant the message into their core ideologies as they grow up, promoting a new generation who truly cares about taking action against the destruction of British woodland.
Stakeholder Map and Personas
The stakeholder map consists of several communities whose activities may involve visiting woodlands on the internal map (e.g. hikers and bird-watchers). The external stakeholders are those who may like/need to be aware of a campaign (e.g. local authorities who may need to be present if protests occur).
From my stakeholder map, I chose parents and children to be my personas. I thought that targeting children to get involved could be beneficial both immediately and for years to come. I created a parent persona who wants a better future for her children and cares about climate change, and a child persona who is less aware of the environmental problems around him. Whilst children are the main target, it is often up to parents to decide what media their children engage with, which is why I thought two personas would be appropriate.

Billboard
The billboard attempts to engage families by using the universal experience of seeking comfort from a parent when frightened as a child. Audiences are signposted to the app and encouraged to read about how they can help resolve the issue.

App Prototype
The main function of the app is to scan QR codes that can be found on the signs at Woodland Trust locations. By scanning multiple QR codes, users can redeem rewards. The rewards both engage young users and help the Woodland Trust's cause, as they are things such as artificial habitats and animal-friendly seed packets. This instills a desire to explore more Woodland and promotes a postitive relationship with Woodland, thus encouraging users to want to protect and preserve.
Environmental Sign
The sign educates audiences on what wildlife can be found at the specific location. A fact file about a specific animal is included, which outlines its threats and what audiences can do to help (e.g. building artificial habitats). The sign also directs audiences to the app, which they can use to learn about the other animals and also to scan the QR code on the sign, documenting their visit to the Woodland Trust location.
